Tribute to Shaheed Kanshi Ram Marauli on martyrdom centenary-27-3

Pandit Kanshi Ram was one of the founders and major leaders of Ghadar Party formed in 1913 in Astoria, USA. He was Treasurer of the party also. Kanshi Ram Joshi was born in Marauli village on 13th October 1883. Son of Pt. Gangaram, he has four other brothers-Des Raj, Dev Raj, Bansiram and Mathura Das. He passed his Matriculation from Mohindera School Patiala and did telegraphy course. After brief jobs in India,including at Viceroy office in Delhi, Kanshi Ram moved to USA in 1906. There he with his hard labour earned enough to become contractor. He became active among Gadarite activists, including Baba Sohan Singh Bhakna, Guraditta Kumar, Pandurang Khankhoje etc. Finally they formed Gadar party.Kanshi Ram returned to India on 12th November 1914 and on 27th November, he was arrested in Pheru Shehar incident, in which one police officials was shot dead by one of their comrades, when he slapped Rehmat Ali Wajidke. Kanshi Ram, Rehmat Ali Wajidke and four more Gadarites were hanged on 25-27th March 1915 and when the Gadarite who shot was caught judge said that these six have ben innocent! Kanshi Ram Memorial college established by CPI leader and MLA Shamsher Singh Josh in Bhagomajara village established college in memorial in 1974, which organised centenary martyrdom memorial function. I was one of speakers with Prof.Harish Puri and Raghubir Kaur. I gifted my book Ghadar party hero Kartar Singh Sarabha to the college, chairman of colege announced that they will get hundered copies of the book from NBT for college library. A very satisfying day. Visited Kanshi Ram birth house in village where a statue, stadium, school and memorial gate is erected, the photographs of village were taken by Sita Ram Balwinder Bansal on his camera!
