Abhey Singh Sandhu-Untimely and Painful Alvida during Pandemic Times

Around six pm on 14th May, an
unpleasant news of passing away of Abhey Singh Sandhu, a worthy son of Martyr Bhagat Singh family,
was being posted by many people on social media-Facebook and WhatsApp. Since
the news was not posted from the family members of Bhagat Singh, it was
difficult to believe. I called upon Kiranjit Singh Sandhu, another nephew of
Bhagat Singh in Saharnapur. After confirmation of this heart-breaking news from
him, I felt deeply saddened. Of all the horrible news of Corona times, at
personal level, this was the worst news!
Bhagat Singh family from his own
generation is huge family. They were nine brothers and sisters, the last one to
go was Bibi Prakash Kaur, who lived up to 2014 in Canada. With eldest brother
Jagat Singh passing away in childhood and with the martyrdom of an unmarried
Bhagat Singh, the whole family shifted to their ancestral haveli in Khatkar
Kalan village of Jalandhar district in Punjab after partition in 1947. Two
brothers-Kulbir Singh and Kultar Singh shifted to Saharnpur and two younger
ones-Ranvir Singh and Rajinder Singh shifted to Bazpur area of Terai region
after getting lands there. The three sisters-Bibi Amar Kaur was already married
in East Punjab, and two others-Bibi Prakash Kaur and Bibi Sumitra Devi(Kausalya)
were married in Indian Punjab. With number of nephews and nieces from siblings
and further their progenies, this family of Bhagat Singh with historic legacy,
is spread all over India and abroad.
Abhey Singh Sandhu was born on 20th
October 1956 in the family of Kulbir Singh, immediate younger brother of Bhagat
Singh. He was one of four siblings. His elder brother Babar Singh had
predeceased him many years ago. Two of his sisters-Varsha Basi lives in USA and
another Rubi in Ludhiana. Of his own two children-Abhitej Singh Sandhu died in
an unfortunate road accident in Himachal Pradesh five years ago in 2016 and a
daughter Anushpriya lives in Ludhiana after marriage and has a six year old
child. Abhey Sandhu was married to Tejvinder Sandhu from a Communist family.
Abhey Sandhu was a politically active personality
and he took some major steps in promoting Bhagat Singh ideas in society. During
Bhagat Singh birth centenary in 2007, he got Jail Notebook of Bhagat Singh
published from both Punjab and Haryana Governments with Punjabi and Hindi
translation along with Bhagat Singh’s own handwritten pages in beautiful
handwriting on one side and on facing page translation in Punjabi and Hindi.
These publications from both Punjab and Haryana Governments were for free
distribution to people and perhaps can still be acquired free from both state
governments stores! The whole Bhagat Singh extended family including Abhey
Sandhu and his wife, had joined the function to inaugurate Bhagat Singh tall
statue installed in Parliament complex by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh then. Unfortunately,
Bhagat Singh statue has also now become victim of so-called Central Vista of
Modi Govt.
At the time of formation of Peoples Party of
Punjab (PPP) by Manpreet Singh Badal, after splitting from his uncle Prakash
Singh Badal in 2011, Abhey Singh Sandhu was one of its founders and Manpreet
Badal still feels proud of having Abhey Singh Sandhu as his comrade in PPP.
After PPP got dismantled with Manpreet Badal joining Congress party, Abhey
Singh Sandhu got weaned towards Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab. He contested
elections to Punjab assembly from both PPP and later AAP but failed to score
victory. However, his son Abhitej Sandhu was more successful in his political
venture, he started working in the youth wing of Aam Admi Party (AAP) and made
a niche for himself in short time travelling all over India and getting
followers for himself on his own. He was close to central leadership of AAP
also and was a likely candidate for Punjab assembly elections in 2017, had the
cruel hands of death not snatched him in 2016 accident. After the tragic death
of Abhitej, both parents set up Abhitej Foundation and made a mission of
carrying forward the tasks set up by Abhitej in his youthful activities of
promoting Bhagat Singh thought among Indian youth through his mass appeal.
With this mission in mind Abhey Sandhu
his wife and daughter all participated in farmers movement and showed their
solidarity with the movement by regularly visiting Sanyukat Kisan Morcha sit
ins on Delhi borders. They were honoured by SKM on 21st February
2021 on the occasion of 140th birth anniversary of Abhey Sandhu’s
grand uncle Ajit Singh, who had launched Pagdi Sambhal Jatta movement in 1907
to oppose three anti farmer laws of British times. Irony is that even British
colonial rulers repealed three laws within three months, but Modi Govt. is
proving even crueller that British Govt, which is refusing to repeal the three
black laws in the face of much stronger and wider movement than British times.
They visited farmers protest on 8th March 2021 women day programme
also. Abhey Sandhu was invited by young activists of Rajasthan on 23rd
March this year to unveil statues of Bhagat Singh set up by youth in many
towns. On 27th March Abhey Sandhu unveiled statue of Bhagat Singh in
Karanpur (Rajasthan) as per his Facebook post. It seems that on return from Rajasthan,
he fell ill and was admitted to Fortis hospital Mohali after being tested
Corona positive.
In 2016, Abhitej Sandhu while leaving
for Himachal Pradesh on a personal visit had promised that on his return, he
would accompany me to Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister Delhi Govt to set
up Bhagat Singh Archives in Delhi Archives building for which I was ready to
gift my collection of nearly two thousand books, journals, letters of
revolutionary freedom fighters and many documents collected from various
archives on revolutionary aspect of freedom struggle of India. He never
returned from Himachal, but AAP activist and leader Atishi Marlena facilitated
the same meeting with Sh. Sisodia in 2017 and Bhagat Singh Archives and
Resource Centre was finally becoming a reality in the precincts of Delhi
Archives on 23rd March 2018, when it was inaugurated by Gopal Rai,
Delhi minister with two days national seminar on Bhagat Singh. As per agreement
signed with Delhi Govt, an advisory board of eminent historians was set up to
guide its activities. From Bhagat Singh family Abhey Singh Sandhu was made
member of advisory committee of Bhagat Singh Archives and Resource Centre. He
took keen interest in this resource centre and participated in its meeting held
in 2018. He also participated in first anniversary function of Bhagat Singh Archives
and Resource centre in March 2019.
I had regular conversations in
meetings with Abhey Sandhu and once we travelled together to Suratgarh in
Rajsthan for a programe on Bhagat Singh, on our way we visited famous Kalian
Banga, ancient archival site and Sangria educational hub.
Our regular mobile conversations continued
during Covid 19, but had not spoken for last about two months. As per
information gathered from his daughter Anushpriya, Abhey Sandhu was kept in
Corona ward till 25th April or so, during which his wife and
daughter could only had video chat with him, but around 27th April
he was declared Corona negative and shifted to other observation ward. He could
meet his wife and daughter there, but not for long time. He still had health
problems, he was given palates regularly and his health suddenly deteriorated
and he passed away on 14th May evening.

14 ਮਈ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਕਰੀਬ ਛੇ ਵਜੇ ਸੋਸ਼ਲ ਮੀਡਿਆ-ਫੇਸਬੂਕ ਅਤੇ whatsappਤੇ ਕੁਝ ਦੋਸਤ-ਵਾਕਫ਼ਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਪਾਉਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ, ਜੋ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਣਹਾਰ ਫਰਜੰਦ ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੁ ਦੇ ਬੇਵਕਤ ਚਲਾਣੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਸੀ।
ਇਹ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ , ਸੋ ਯਕੀਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਿਲ ਲੱਗਿਆ, ਫਿਰ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਸਹਾਰਨਪੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਕਿਰਨਜੀਤ ਸੰਧੂ ਹੋਰਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਬਰ
ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੋਈ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਡੂੰਘਾ ਉਦਾਸ ਹੋਇਆ। ਕਰੋਣਾ ਦੌਰ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਨੇਕ ਬੁਰੀਆਂ ਖ਼ਬਰਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ
ਨਿਜੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਜਿਆਦਾ ਬੁਰੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਸੀ।
ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ
ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਹੈ। ਖ਼ੁਦ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਹੋਰੀਂ ਨੌਂ ਭੈਣ ਭਰਾ ਸਨ ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਆਖਰੀ ਭੈਣ ਬੀਬੀ
ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕੌਰ 2014 ਤੱਕ ਜਿਉਂਦੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਜਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਬਚਪਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਲਾਣੇ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਵਿਆਹੇ ਭਗਤ
ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਬਚੇ ਚਾਰ ਭਰਾਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਭੈਣਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਚਿਆਂ ਦਾ-ਭਤੀਜੇ-ਭਤੀਜਿਆਂ, ਭਾਣਜੇ-ਭਾਣਜੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਅਗਲੀਆਂ
ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਤੱਕ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਿਕ ਵਿਰਸੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਇਹ ਖ਼ਾਨਦਾਨ ਪੰਜਾਬ, ਭਾਰਤ ਅਤੇ
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਮੁਲਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੈਲਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੂ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਤੋਂ ਛੋਟੇ ਭਰਾ
ਕੁਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਘਰ 20 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 1956 ਨੂੰ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੀ। ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦਾ ਸਾਰਾ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਮੁਲਕ ਦੀ
ਵੰਡ ਬਾਅਦ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਖਟਕੜ ਕਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੱਦੀ ਹਵੇਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਸ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਫਿਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਛੋਟੇ ਭਰਾ-ਕੁਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਕੁਲਤਾਰ
ਸਿੰਘ ਸਹਾਰਨਪੁਰ ਆ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਦੋ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ
ਛੋਟੇ-ਰਣਵੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਰਜਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਤਰਾਈ ਦੇ ਬਾਜਪੁਰ ਇਲਾਕੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਜ਼ਮੀਨਾਂ ਲੈਕੇ ਵਸ ਗਏ ਸਨ।
ਕੁਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਖੁਦ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਫਿਰੋਜ਼ਪੁਰ ਤੋਂ ਜਨਸੰਘ ਦੀ ਟਿਕਟ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਸੇਂਬਲੀ ਦੇ ਐਮ ਐਲ ਏ
ਚੁਣੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੂ ਹੋਰੀਂ ਚਾਰ ਭੈਣ ਭਰਾ ਸਨ-ਬਾਬਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੋ ਕਈ ਵਰੇ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਗੁਜ਼ਰ ਗਏ
ਸਨ। ਦੋ ਭੈਣਾਂ-ਵਰਸ਼ਾ ਬਾਸੀ ਜੋ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਬੀ ਜੋ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਹਨ। ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੂ ਦੇ
ਆਪਣੇ ਦੋ ਬਚਿਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਬੇਟੇ ਅਭਿਤੇਜ ਸੰਧੁ ਦਾ ਪੰਜ ਸਾਲ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ
ਸੜਕ ਹਾਦਸੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿਹਾਂਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ
ਅਭਿਤੇਜ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਬਣਾਈ ਸੀ। ਦੂਸਰੀ ਬੇਟੀ ਅਨੁਪ੍ਰਿਆ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਵਿਆਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੂ
ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਤੇਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਇੱਕ ਕਮੂਨਿਸਟ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਨ।
ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੁ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਸਖਸ਼ਿਅਤ ਸਨ ਅਤੇ
ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਵਿਚਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਰ ਹਿੱਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਘੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤੇ। ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਜਨਮ ਸ਼ਤਾਬਦੀ
ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਜੇਲ ਨੋਟ ਬੁਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ
ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿਜੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਤਹਿਤ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੁਫ਼ਤ ਵੰਡਣ ਲਈ ਛਪਵਾਈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ
ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਤਾਬ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਪਾਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ ਮੂਲ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਖ਼ੂਬਸੂਰਤ ਹਥਲਿਖਤ
ਛਪੀ ਗਈ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਹਿੰਦੀ ਅਨੁਵਾਦ ਛਾਪੇ ਗਏ ਸਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ
ਸਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਕੋਲ ਹਾਲੀ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਨੋਟ ਬੁਕ ਜਾਂ ਡਾਇਰੀ ਮੁਫ਼ਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਖ਼ੁਦ
ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਕੁਲਬੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਫਾਊਂਡੇਸ਼ਨ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਆਕਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੀ
ਜੇਲ ਡਾਇਰੀ ਛਪਵਾਈ ਹੈ।
ਅਕਾਲੀ ਦਲ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਖ ਹੋਕੇ ਜਦ ਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ
ਨੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੀਪਲਜ਼ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਤਾਂ ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੁ ਉਸਦੇ ਸੰਸਥਾਪਕਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਸਨ, ਜਿਸਨੂੰ ਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਦਲ ਅੱਜ ਵੀ ਮਾਣ ਨਾਲ
ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਪੀਪਲਜ਼ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਖਿੰਡਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੂ ਦਾ ਝੁਕਾਅ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ
ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵੱਲ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਪਾਰਟੀਆਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਸੇਂਬਲੀ ਲਈ ਚੋਣ
ਲੜੀ, ਹਾਲਾਂਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਏ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਵੱਧ ਕੇ
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਬੇਟੇ ਅਭਿਤੇਜ ਸੰਧੁ ਨੇ ਆਮ ਆਦਮੀ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਯੂਥ ਵਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਰਗਰਮੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੀ
ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਕੇਂਦਰੀ ਲੀਡਰਸ਼ਿਪ ਦੇ ਕਾਫੀ ਨੇੜੇ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਗਏ ਸਨ। 2016 ਵਿੱਚ ਜੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਬੇਵਕਤ
ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਵਫ਼ਾਤ ਨਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਸੇਂਬਲੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਭਾਵੀ ਮੇਬਰ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੇ ਮੁਖ
ਨੇਤਾਵਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੁੰਦੇ। ਥੋੜੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਅਭਿਤੇਜ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਅਤੇ ਆਪ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਤੋਂ
ਬਾਹਰਲੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਅਸਰ ਰਸੂਖ਼ ਸਾਰੇ ਹਿੰਦੁਸਤਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਅਭਿਤੇਜ ਦੇ
ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਸਦੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ-ਅਭੈ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਜਵਿੰਦਰ ਨੇ ਉਸਦੇ ਛਡੇ ਕਾਰਜ ਨੂੰ
ਹੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਬਣਾ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਇਸੇ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਤਹਿਤ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋਏ ਅਤੇ
ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਤੱਕ ਫੈਲੇ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਅੰਦੋਲਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਜੀ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਿਰਕਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਕਰੀਬ ਹਰ ਮਹੀਨੇ
ਉਹ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਦੀਆਂ ਹੱਦਾਂ ਤੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਕਿਸਾਨ ਸਮੂਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੀ ਇਕਜੁਟਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ
ਹੁੰਦੇ ਰਹੇ। 21 ਫਰਵਰੀ ਦੇ ਪਗੜੀ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਜੱਟਾ ਲਹਿਰ ਦੇ ਆਗੂ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਦਾਦੇ ਅਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ
140 ਵੇਂ ਜਨਮ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਉਹ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਏ। 8 ਮਾਰਚ ਨੂੰ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਵੀ ਉਹ
ਪਤਨੀ ਤੇ ਬੇਟੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਏ, ਜਿਥੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਨਮਾਨਤ ਵੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।
2016 ਵਿੱਚ ਅਭਿਤੇਜ ਨੇ ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਯਾਤਰਾ ਤੇ ਜਾਣ
ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਵਾਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਹਿਮਾਚਲ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਪਿਸ ਆਕੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਕੇ ਮੇਰੇ
ਵਲੋਂ ਸੋਚੇ-ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਆਰਕਾਇਵਸ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਉਪ ਮੁੱਖ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਮਨੀਸ਼ ਸੀਸੋਦੀਆ
ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰੇਗਾ, ਜੋ ਉਸਦੇ
ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਕਰਨ ਸੰਭਵ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਿਆ। ਪਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਦੀ ਨੇਤਾ ਤੇ ਐਮ ਐਲ ਏ ਅਤਿਸ਼ੀ
ਨਾਲ ਜਾਕੇ ਮਨੀਸ਼ ਸੀਸੋਦੀਆ ਨਾਲ ਏਹ ਗਲਬਾਤ ਸਿਰੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਗਈ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਸੰਗਰਾਮ ਨਾਲ
ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਤੋਹਫ਼ੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਕਰੀਬ ਦੋ ਹਜ਼ਾਰ ਕਿਤਾਬਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੇ ਇੰਕਲਾਬੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਤਾਂ
ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਅਨੇਕ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ਾਂ ਤੇ ਆਧਾਰਿਤ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ
ਆਰਕਾਇਵਸ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਧਨ ਕੇਂਦਰ , ਦਿੱਲੀ ਅਰਕਾਇਵਸ ਦੀ ਬਿਲਡਿੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ
23 ਮਾਰਚ 2018 ਨੂੰ ਬਕਾਇਦਾ ਸਥਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਉਦਘਾਟਨ ਭਗਤ
ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਮੇਮਬਰਜ਼ ਦੀ ਹਾਜ਼ਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਲੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਰਾਇ ਨੇ ਕੀਤਾ
ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਅਰਕਾਇਵਸ ਦੇ ਸਮਝੌਤੇ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਇਸ ਲਈ ਬਕਾਇਦਾ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਬੋਰਡ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਸਿੱਧ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਅਭੈ
ਸੰਧੁ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਮੇਮਬਰ ਰਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੂ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਸਲਾਹਕਾਰ ਬੋਰਡ ਦੀਆਂ ਮੀਟਿੰਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ
ਆਪਣਾ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾਉਣ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਰਕਾਇਵਜ਼ ਦੇ 2019 ਦੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਸਲਾਨਾ ਪ੍ਰੋਗਰਾਮ ਵਿੱਚ
ਵੀ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਸੰਬੰਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਾਡੀ ਅਕਸਰ ਆਪਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਚਰਚਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਸੀ। ਪਰ
ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਇੱਕ ਮਹੀਨੇ ਤੋਂ ਸਾਡੀ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕੀ ਸੀ।

ਬੇਟੀ ਅਨੁਪ੍ਰਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲੀ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੂ ਦੀ ਤਬੀਅਤ
ਖਰਾਬ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਫੋਰਟਿਸ ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਮੋਹਾਲੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਂਚ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕਰੋਣਾ ਦੀ ਪੁਸ਼ਟੀ ਹੋਣ ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ
ਨੂੰ 6 ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਨੂੰ ਕਰੋਣਾ ਵਾਰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਾਖਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਥੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਇਜ਼ਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। 23-24
ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਤੱਕ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਰੋਣਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਕਹਿ ਕੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਵਾਰਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਭੇਜ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਜਿਥੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਅਤੇ ਬੇਟੀ ਕੁਝ ਸਮੇਂ ਲਈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦੇ ਸਨ। ਮਈ ਦੇ
ਪਹਿਲੇ ਹਫ਼ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਹਤ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਕੁਝ
ਗੁੰਝਲਾਂ ਆਈਆਂ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਕਰੋਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। ਉਥੇ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਦੇ ਮੁਖੀ ਡਾ
ਮੰਡਲ ਅਤੇ ਡਾ ਜ਼ਾਫਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਦੇਖ ਭਾਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੂਨ ਦੀ ਕਮੀ ਕਾਰਣ ਪੇਲੇਟਸ
ਦਿੱਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਨ। 14 ਮਈ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਛੇ ਵਜੇ ਦੇ ਕਰੀਬ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ੌਤ ਹੋਇਆ ਘੋਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ, ਜੋ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਜਾਣਨ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਲਈ ਬੜਾ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਦਮਾ ਸੀ, ਕਿਉਂਕਿ
ਅਭੈ ਸੰਧੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਹਤ ਚੰਗੀ ਸੀ। ਹਸਪਤਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਕਰੋਣਾ ਮੁਕਤ ਸਰਟੀਫਿਕੇਟ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ
ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਹੁਣ ਅਗਲੇ ਐਤਵਾਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਘ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਗੁਰਦਵਾਰਾ ਸੋਹਾਣਾ ਵਿਖੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ
ਲਈ ਭੋਗ ਦੀ ਰਸਮ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
